Restaurants in Ferrara

Open from 12.15 p.m. – 2.30 p.m., 6 p.m. for aperitifs and from 7.30 – 10.30 p.m. for dinner. Closed on Thursdays
This is a welcoming and comfortable osteria where you can enjoy an aperitif of fine wine and good beer, followed by a sit-down meal. Its menu is rigorously home-made and there is a good choice of traditional and innovative dishes. It is particularly pleasant when the weather is nice and you can have an aperitif or dinner outside.

This is the oldest osteria in Italy and has been visited by famous people through the ages. It is an important wine bar with an extensive selection of wines. Whilst it is nice to sit back and enjoy a good wine, it is also worth tasting their Cappellacci – voted by some members of staff as being the best in Ferrara!

This gourmet hamburger restaurant comes recommended for its atmosphere, children’s play area and its use of local, fresh products and organic ingredients. It serves interesting craft beers, salads and desserts, as well as dishes suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Look out for its special lunch time and children’s menu.

Inside, this restaurant will remind you of an old English pub. Its culinary highlights are the first courses which are in abundance. You can try a special tasting menu of different starters and it is unlikely that you will have room for a main course!

If you are looking for a gorgeous setting and a different experience this is the restaurant which has been nominated by several members of staff. It is slightly pricey, but worth it. Food is served in sizzling copper pots and the cheese boards are amazing.

This restaurant has been recommended by staff for its lovely garden, dining atmosphere and its high quality food. A lot of love and care is given to the dishes and the fish courses in particular are excellent.

The seafood is excellent and the antipastos are a real specialty of this restaurant. At lunchtime there is a set menu which is great value. In the evening it has an a la carte menu with a lot more choice but still offers reasonable prices.

This restaurant is one of Caterina’s favourites. It is good value for the quality of the food and the service is very professional. We personally test out their culinary skills at our Christmas staff party just to check everything is up to standard!

Da Noemi is an elegant trattoria in the heart of the city centre with a welcoming and intimate atmosphere. It offers home-made traditional Ferrarese cooking with a twist. The portions are hearty and desserts are delicious! It has been tried and tasted by the Early Years staff!

If you are looking for a romantic place where to dine, this is the restaurant for you. It is a little pricey but its fish dishes, fine wines and atmosphere provide a culinary experience which you will never forget. We recommend that you book in advance.

Once an old mill, the Vecchio Mulino has been a family run restaurant/pizzeria for three generations, passing down its family’s recipes and traditions from generation to generation. As well as a pizzeria, it also specializes in typical Ferrarese cooking using fresh products from the local area, and seafood which is caught locally from the Adriatic sea. It is a great place for all the family as it has a special area dedicated to children and offers entertainment for them on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for free.

The owner of the Cappellaio Matto (The Mad Hatter) is also the owner of this delightful pizzeria, which continues the theme of Alice in Wonderland. It has a tiny room at the front but if you walk through to the back there is a lovely room built in the back garden.

This is a tiny, traditional pizzeria perfect for a casual, quick supper. It sells slices of Margherita or Napolitano pizza (with anchovies) and the best ceci (chickpea bread) in Ferrara for 3- 5 euros, all baked in a traditional wooden oven. Sit at one of the few tables or at the kitchen bar and you will soon feel at home.

Eating out on a moored boat makes this pizzeria/restaurant a family favourite, especially with children. The atmosphere is loud and lively making it a fun evening out. The menu is endless and the prices are reasonable. The pizzas are enormous and delicious too.

There is an excellent choice of pizzas at this restaurant/pizzeria and they are thin crust, enormous and delicious! This restaurant also specializes in seafood and has a wide selections of traditional and innovative dishes. In the summer the large patio windows are opened and there is a little playground area for children with a fence around it. Indoors, the restaurant caters for large parties, as well as having smaller rooms or areas for more intimate dining.
