ULTIME NOTIZIE DAL MADAGASCAR: L’IMPIANTO E’ ATTIVO

Continuano le buone notizie dal Madagascar!

Finalmente l’impianto fotovoltaico, costruito grazie anche all’aiuto di Smiling International School, è stato ultimato ed è attualmente attivo!

Dopo aver individuato il locale ideale dove posizionare le batterie, è partita la distribuzione della linea elettrica verso la copertura totale del territorio interessato, per poi collegarla ai pannelli allacciati. Per completare l’installazione si è reso necessario l’adattamento delle centraline esistenti.

E’ stato inoltre installato un commutatore che in caso di emergenza ripristina il collegamento con la rete nazionale; sono stati sostituiti 76 punti luce nei locali con lampadine a led eliminando tutti i neon; infine è stata realizzata una nuova, provvisoria, linea elettrica per gli scaldabagno (in modo da garantire l’erogazione di acqua calda), ma che verrà eliminata in quanto consuma troppa corrente. Si arriverà, in un secondo momento, a far riscaldare l’acqua dal calore del sole, portando a zero il consumo di corrente.

Insomma, l’operazione ha richiesto tanto tempo, il Team ha dovuto far fronte a vari impedimenti, soprattutto relativi alla scarsa reperibilità in loco di materiale da lavoro. Tuttavia grazie alla loro tenacia e determinazione dimostrata nel portare a termine il progetto, siamo orgogliosi di annunciare che con il nuovo impianto è stato ridotto il consumo di corrente statale del 60-70 %.

Nonostante questo sia già un risultato invidiabile, vi è un ampio margine di miglioramento, sarà infatti possibile diminuire ulteriormente il consumo di corrente.

Good news from Madagascar keeps on coming!

The Nosy Be’s school solar panel system, which Smiling International School donated to, is competed and live.

Once the team found the ideal location for the batteries, they distributed the power line across the whole area where power is needed. From there, they connected the panels and adapted all the existing control units.

The builders also installed an emergency switch, which would restore connection with the national network. Furthermore, the team replaced 76 lights with LED bulbs, which has eliminated all neon lighting.

Finally, a new, temporary, power line for a boiler is in place. They plan to remove this, though, because it consumes too much electricity. In future, water will be heated by the sun, completely reducing the power consumption down to zero.

The operation was extensive. The team faced a series of setbacks, especially where a lack of materials was concerned. However, thanks to their tenacity and determination in completing the project, we are proud to announce that the new plant has reduced power consumption by 60-70%.

Even though this is already an impressive achievement, there is still a long way to go. In fact, it’s possible to decrease current power consumption even further.

It’s a good start and has changed the lives of the Sisters and students.

Aggiornamenti dal Madagascar

Solidarietà, empatia e condivisione sono solo alcune delle emozioni che i nostri amici a distanza desiderano mostrarci in questi giorni particolari. 

Alcuni alunni della Scuola Sacro Cuore del Madagascar, che Smiling sostiene da tempo, hanno pensato di regalarci qualche minuto di spensieratezza e trasmetterci una buona dose di positività. 

 

Un pensiero gentile che ci ricorda che, a volte, una parola detta da un bambino, mentre sorride, è meglio di mille parole vuote.

Dall Madagascar tanta solidarietà viaggia insieme a buone notizie relative all’inizio dei lavori per impostare il montaggio dei pannelli fotovoltaici.

Dopo un primo sopralluogo effettuato in data 23 Marzola posa dei pannelli fotovoltaici é stata ufficialmente terminata il 24 Aprile 2020.

L’impianto ha reso necessari una serie di interventi, in cui si sono riscontrate alcune problematiche. La più rilevante è stata il rifacimento di tutte le linee di alimentazioni dei vari immobili. Questo, il primo step del progetto, iniziato il6 Aprile, ha permesso, che ha permesso di ridurre i consumi, in gran parte dovuti a dispersioni verso terra. Ad oggi il contesto impiantistico generale rispetta i canoni di normalità richiestianche e soprattutto in termini di sicurezza.

Il problema principale coincideva con valori della terra di tensione molto bizzarri e diversi, come se vi fossero delle dispersioni. La ricerca del guasto appariva piuttosto complessa da rendere l’equilibrio del sistema fortemente compromesso. Un controllo alla fornitura di energia ha dato ha reso nota la fonte del disequilibrio. Una situazione decisamente grave sotto il profilo della sicurezza. Una volta risolta la situazioe, tutto il contesto impiantistico è rientrato nei parametri della normalità e si è potuto procedere a completare le varie fasi dell’installazione.

Il più grande inconveniente nell’esecuzione impiantistica è la carenza di materiali, purtroppo non esistono rivenditori di materiale elettrico e mancano completamente tutta una serie di componenti indispensabili.

Il prossimo intervento sarà sul tetto, per la posa dei primi pannelli.

L’obiettivo rimane sempre quello di concludere l’installazione per metterla tutta in condizioni di esercizio efficienti.

Solidarity, empathy and sharing are just some of the emotions that our friends from far away want to show us in these unusual times. 

Some students from the Sacred Heart School of Madagascar, which Smiling has been supporting for some time, thought to send us something to chase our cares away and to give us a boost of positivity.

A kind thought that reminds us that, sometimes, a single word spoken by a smiling child is worth more than a thousand empty words.

This show of solidarity comes all the way from Madagascar with good news. Work on the installation of the solar panels has begun! After the first inspection was carried out on March 23rd, the installation of solar panels was officially completed on April 24th 2020. 

The plant made some changes after they encountered some initial problems. The most important was the reconstruction of all the power lines between various buildings. This was the first step of the project, which started on April 6. It saved power, largely as a result of preventing leakages in the ground. Now, the system adheres to the standards required, in terms of safety.

The main problem stemmed from unusual and varying voltages. The search for the failure appeared rather complex and the system appeared compromised. A check on the energy supply showed an imbalance; a very serious safety issue. Once the situation was resolved, the entire plant was checked again and then it was possible to proceed with the following phases of installation.

The biggest obstacle in the construction of the solar panels is the lack of materials. Unfortunately, there are no electrical equipment shops and they are completely missing a series of essential components. 

The next stage will be to work on the roof, laying the first panels. The goal is to complete the installation and make it fit for use. The project continues…

The Sun is Smiling on Madagascar School Project

Finalmente, dopo quasi quattro mesi, il carico è arrivato a destinazione.

Già a gennaio, la nave aveva attraccato al porto di Tamatave, sulla costa orientale dell’isola, ma a causa del brutto tempo, hanno dovuto attendere tre settimane per caricare il camion e partire in direzione Nosy-Be (Nord/Est).

“Grande soddisfazione, mai avremmo pensato di partecipare ad un aiuto a 8.000 chilometri da casa.”- scrive su Facebook Alessandro Magnani, il nostro referente per il progetto – “Ora si pensa a programmare la posa dei pannelli e di tutto l’impianto”.

High School students unload supplies to begin construction

The wait is over for the children attending Schools of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, as vital materials to build solar panels have arrived.

Based in Lecce on the island of Nosy-Be in Madagascar, the African school educates around 1500 pupils. Due to its growing student population, remote location and scarcity of quality supplies, they were increasingly facing an energy crisis.

Thanks to Smiling International School and the generosity of parents, however, a plan was hatched. Through the donation of supplies to build power sources, the school could look forward to a brighter tomorrow.

At last, after four months of delays and bad weather, the cargo has finally arrived at its destination, bringing hope of a new future.

“This is such a great sense of satisfaction. I would never have thought I could take part in a cause 8,000 km from home,” wrote Alessandro Magnani, our contact on the project.

“Now it’s time to install the panels and the whole electrical system,” he said.

On a sun-drenched island, this machinery will provide sustainable and renewable energy. As energy prices rise and the reliance on diesel generators becomes too costly to bear, these panels and batteries will transform the way the school uses electricity.

Now, the eldest pupils of the High School are mucking in to unload the materials and to join the construction effort.

That certainly deserves some freshly baked bread from the newly-powered kitchen.
