Futuri giornalisti si formano: gli studenti della classe 8B  (III anno della Secondaria di I grado) di Smiling International School hanno fatto il loro debutto sul quotidiano di Ferrara, Il Resto del Carlino.

Hanno scelto la gemma nascosta della città, il cimitero ebraico di Ferrara, come focus del loro articolo e hanno sviluppato le loro capacità di reportage sia in lingua italiana che in lingua inglese.

In classe hanno studiato la struttura e il formato, nonché il linguaggio conciso utilizzato nelle redazione di notizie. Dopo aver appreso come scrivere un articolo, gli studenti hanno lavorato in più team per produrre il pezzo pubblicato dal Resto del Carlino.

La Prof.ssa di lingue e letteratura Inglese Lexi Pardee, ha dichiarato: << Gli studenti hanno lavorato duramente per mantenere le idee concise e interessanti. L’intera classe è estremamente orgogliosa di essere stata pubblicata sul quotidiano della propria città e aver potuto constatare, di conseguenza, che il loro duro lavoro sia stato ripagato.>>

Questo progetto ha presentato agli studenti una sfida nella vita reale. E. Morelli, Prof.ssa di inglese presso Smiling International School, spiega di aver studiato queste abilità preparando un corso di scrittura a Cambridge, e che con grande entusiasmo ha condiviso con i ragazzi il suo background d’eccezione per questa grande opportunità giornalistica.

Anche la Prof.ssa C. Vicentini, insegnante di italiano presso Smiling, ha collaborato alla scrittura della versione in lingua italiana dell’articolo pubblicato, dichiarando <<E’ stata un’iniziativa utile per guardare finalmente alla scrittura e alla cultura anche con un approccio professionale e non solo per ottenere un voto in classe! Da oggi hanno capito, spero, che se si ha qualcosa da dire lo si può fare davvero e raggiungere con le proprie idee tante persone..

Sono molto contenta di vedere le loro fatiche pubblicate sul giornale ma soprattutto sono felice pensando ai loro sorrisi e alla loro soddisfazione per aver concluso, insieme, qualcosa di grande!>>

Students of class 8B from Smiling International School have made their writing debut in the Ferrara newspaper, Il Resto del Carlino.

They chose the hidden gem, the city’s Jewish Cemetery, as the focus of their article and applied their reportage skills in both Italian and English.

In class, they studied the structure and format, as well as the concise language used in news reports. Once they had learned the theory of article writing, students worked in groups to produce this published piece.

Smiling English teacher, Lexi Pardee, said: “Students worked hard to keep their ideas brief and interesting. 8B is extremely proud to see themselves published in the paper and feel that their hard work has paid off.”

This project presented a real-life challenge to the students. Eleonora Morelli, also an English teacher at Smiling, said that they had studied these skills for a Cambridge writing exam, which prepared them well for this opportunity.

“Often, students fail to see connections between their school syllabus and what is awaiting them in their future life. This project shows them how tangible and relevant their studies are,” she said.

Not only did they transfer what they had learned in the classroom into an authentic newsroom scenario, they showed great teamworking skills. Ms Morelli said: “I’m certainly proud of their achievements, not just for their effort, but for how they worked in groups and organised themselves.”

For the Italian part of the article, Italian teacher Giada Zerbini said: “The students have always been very motivated and this project has given them the opportunity to use their skills.

“They have been autonomous, have worked in groups and each of them has made their own contribution. I consider myself lucky to have participated in this project.”

Cecilia Vicentini also collaborated on the Italian writing. She said: “It was a useful initiative to look at writing and culture with a professional approach rather than to just get a grade in class.

“I am very happy to see their efforts published in the newspaper but above all, I am happy thinking about their smiles and their satisfaction for having achieved something great together!”

Preparing our students for their future lives with real-world teaching is at the heart of what we do. We are so proud to see them working independently and already standing out in a competitive work environment.

Solidarietà, empatia e condivisione sono solo alcune delle emozioni che i nostri amici a distanza desiderano mostrarci in questi giorni particolari. 

Alcuni alunni della Scuola Sacro Cuore del Madagascar, che Smiling sostiene da tempo, hanno pensato di regalarci qualche minuto di spensieratezza e trasmetterci una buona dose di positività. 

 

Un pensiero gentile che ci ricorda che, a volte, una parola detta da un bambino, mentre sorride, è meglio di mille parole vuote.

Dall Madagascar tanta solidarietà viaggia insieme a buone notizie relative all’inizio dei lavori per impostare il montaggio dei pannelli fotovoltaici.

Dopo un primo sopralluogo effettuato in data 23 Marzola posa dei pannelli fotovoltaici é stata ufficialmente terminata il 24 Aprile 2020.

L’impianto ha reso necessari una serie di interventi, in cui si sono riscontrate alcune problematiche. La più rilevante è stata il rifacimento di tutte le linee di alimentazioni dei vari immobili. Questo, il primo step del progetto, iniziato il6 Aprile, ha permesso, che ha permesso di ridurre i consumi, in gran parte dovuti a dispersioni verso terra. Ad oggi il contesto impiantistico generale rispetta i canoni di normalità richiestianche e soprattutto in termini di sicurezza.

Il problema principale coincideva con valori della terra di tensione molto bizzarri e diversi, come se vi fossero delle dispersioni. La ricerca del guasto appariva piuttosto complessa da rendere l’equilibrio del sistema fortemente compromesso. Un controllo alla fornitura di energia ha dato ha reso nota la fonte del disequilibrio. Una situazione decisamente grave sotto il profilo della sicurezza. Una volta risolta la situazioe, tutto il contesto impiantistico è rientrato nei parametri della normalità e si è potuto procedere a completare le varie fasi dell’installazione.

Il più grande inconveniente nell’esecuzione impiantistica è la carenza di materiali, purtroppo non esistono rivenditori di materiale elettrico e mancano completamente tutta una serie di componenti indispensabili.

Il prossimo intervento sarà sul tetto, per la posa dei primi pannelli.

L’obiettivo rimane sempre quello di concludere l’installazione per metterla tutta in condizioni di esercizio efficienti.

Solidarity, empathy and sharing are just some of the emotions that our friends from far away want to show us in these unusual times. 

Some students from the Sacred Heart School of Madagascar, which Smiling has been supporting for some time, thought to send us something to chase our cares away and to give us a boost of positivity.

A kind thought that reminds us that, sometimes, a single word spoken by a smiling child is worth more than a thousand empty words.

This show of solidarity comes all the way from Madagascar with good news. Work on the installation of the solar panels has begun! After the first inspection was carried out on March 23rd, the installation of solar panels was officially completed on April 24th 2020. 

The plant made some changes after they encountered some initial problems. The most important was the reconstruction of all the power lines between various buildings. This was the first step of the project, which started on April 6. It saved power, largely as a result of preventing leakages in the ground. Now, the system adheres to the standards required, in terms of safety.

The main problem stemmed from unusual and varying voltages. The search for the failure appeared rather complex and the system appeared compromised. A check on the energy supply showed an imbalance; a very serious safety issue. Once the situation was resolved, the entire plant was checked again and then it was possible to proceed with the following phases of installation.

The biggest obstacle in the construction of the solar panels is the lack of materials. Unfortunately, there are no electrical equipment shops and they are completely missing a series of essential components. 

The next stage will be to work on the roof, laying the first panels. The goal is to complete the installation and make it fit for use. The project continues…

After almost two months of being locked in at home, we are all in need of some fun and games. Which is why we love this amazing art assignment, transforming learning into play!

 

The children chose their favourite artists and paintings, which were then turned into this marvellous memory card game. C’É POSTA PER TE

LONTANI MA UNITI
 
Questi giorni che affrontiamo sono uno dopo l’altro una sfida di coraggio, resistenza e forza. Mai prima d’ora abbiamo sperimentato qualcosa di così strano, confuso e incerto. Navigando attraverso acque sconosciute, guardando un orizzonte che sembra andare sempre più lontano, è facile sentirsi persi, stancati e abbattuti.

Ma non siete soli. Siamo tutti chiusi nelle nostre case. Non vediamo parenti e amici ormai da settimane; un abbraccio o anche una stretta di mano sembrano in qualche modo usanze e gesti del passato. Ma continuiamo a combattere, collegati e uniti nei cuori e nelle menti, fino a quando non potremo tornare fisicamente a una vita piena di abbracci e meraviglia. Siamo ancora qui per VOI, stiamo ancora pensando a VOI e ancora lavorando duramente per aiutarVi ad imparare o semplicemente a trovare conforto nei momenti più difficili.

Abbiamo ricevuto una lettera da una famiglia la quale desiderava farci sapere che vede Smiling come il proprio faro nella tempesta; un faro di speranza, una luce che guida da casa nei momenti di preoccupazione e sconforto. Sebbene possiamo essere tutti stanchi, leggere questa lettera ci ha dato un rinnovato vigore per continuare e continuare a lottare.  
Gli insegnanti adorano stare con i Vostri figli, vivono per vedere quel momento in cui si “accende la lampadina” quando si scatena la curiosità di un bambino. La loro assenza in una classe è un dolore che non può essere attenuato. 

Finché non ci incontreremo di nuovo, continueremo a fare del nostro meglio nelle aule digitali, creando un mondo virtuale in cui possiamo sentirci tutti al sicuro, connessi e speranzosi per un nuovo inizio.

In questo momento di grande sconforto ed incertezza tante famiglie della scuola primaria e della scuola d’infanzia sentono il bisogno di far pervenire alla Principal Caterina e a tutto lo staff della scuola Smiling la solidarietà e il sostegno che indubbiamente meritano. Siamo testimoni di quanto negli anni lo Smiling abbia saputo offrire ai nostri bimbi e di quanti progetti innovativi “NOI” abbiamo avuto il privilegio di sperimentare prima (e meglio) di tante altre realtà scolastiche.

Le difficoltà non sono mancate ma la scuola ha sempre saputo offrire una risposta concreta a tutte le nostre (numerose) domande cercando di mantenere fissi i criteri di avanguardia e sviluppo che la hanno sempre contraddistinta. Quest’anno scolastico si concluderà tra poco in modo “virtuale” e siamo consapevoli che a Settembre inizierà l’ennesima sfida per voi e per noi. La sfida sarà arrivarci preparati con i requisiti e i criteri di sicurezza che sarà doveroso ed obbligatorio rispettare ma per i quali l’aiuto dello Stato tarderà ad esserci, se ci sarà.

La sfida sarà lavorare con il sorriso dietro alle mascherine cercando di trasmettere l’entusiasmo per imparare in modi diversi da quelli finora conosciuti, come stiamo sperimentando ora. Vi volevamo dire che “da questa parte” si percepisce chiaramente tutto il lavoro che c’è dietro alla scuola on-line che state portando avanti poiché, aldilà delle mattinate in diretta, c’è anche tutto il tempo impiegato dai Teachers per ideare lezioni, compiti, materiale etc. che risultano essere comunque efficaci e interessanti per i nostri ragazzi.

Non ci siamo mai sentiti abbandonati, nemmeno i primi momenti, quando le chat delle classi erano incandescenti per problemi di password o connessioni. Avere la possibilità di interagire direttamente ogni giorno con i propri insegnati e i compagni di classe è diventata una routine che i nostri ragazzi hanno piano piano immagazzinato ed ora sono molto più autonomi e motivati nel partecipare alle lezioni. E’ logico che manca il contatto fisico e la sana confusione che i nostri bimbi sanno generare ma queste cose ci saranno ancora, mi auguro il più presto possibile e credo saranno momenti bellissimi, momenti per i quali possiamo e dobbiamo resistere nell’attesa che ritorni la nostra meravigliosa quotidianità. 

Noi genitori accettiamo la sfida insieme a Caterina, a tutti i Teachers e allo Staff dello Smiling per condurre questa battaglia perché crediamo nel progetto globale educativo che abbiamo scelto e grazie al quale possiamo apprezzare l’alto livello di formazione dei nostri figli. 

Andrà tutto bene…..insieme!!!!

FAR APART BUT CLOSE TOGETHER IN SPIRIT

 

These times we face are a challenge of courage, endurance and strength. Never before have we experienced something so strange, confusing and uncertain. As we navigate our way through unknown waters, looking at a horizon that seems to get further and further away, it’s easy to feel lost, detached and dejected.

 

But you are not alone. We may be all contained in our homes. We may not have seen our family and friends for weeks; a hug or even a handshake feel like customs from a human race long gone somehow. But we are all still battling through, connected and united in hearts and minds. Until we can physically return to a life filled with embrace and wonder, we are still here for you, still thinking of you and still working hard to help you learn or simply find comfort in the toughest of times.

 

We received a letter from a family who wanted to tell us they see Smiling as their lighthouse in the storm; a beacon of hope and a guiding light home through the worry and exhaustion. Although we may all be tired, reading this letter has given us renewed vigour to carry on and to continue the fight. Teachers love being with your children, they thrive on seeing the ‘lightbulb moment’ when a child’s curiosity is sparked. Their absence in a classroom is an ache that cannot be dulled. So until we meet again, we will continue to do our best in the digital classrooms, creating a virtual world where we can all feel safe, connected and hopeful for a new beginning.

At this time of great discomfort and uncertainty, many families of the Primary school and Early Years feel the need to send Principal Caterina and all the Smiling school staff the solidarity and support that they undoubtedly deserve. We have witnessed how Smiling has been there for our children over the years and has taken part in many innovative projects that “WE” have had the privilege of experimenting before (and better than) many other schools.

There have been difficulties, but the school has always been able to offer a concrete answer to all our (numerous) questions, trying to maintain its high standards, which have always made it stand out. This school year will soon end in a “virtual” way and we are aware that in September yet another challenge will begin for you and for us. This will be to prepare ourselves for the safety requirements and criteria that will be necessary and mandatory to comply with, for which State help will be delayed, if any will arrive at all.

The challenge will be to work with a smile behind the masks, trying to convey an enthusiasm to learn in new ways other than those already known, like we are experiencing now. We wanted to tell you that ‘from our side’ you can clearly recognise all the on-going work that is behind the on-line schooling because, as well as the live morning lessons, there is also all the time taken by teachers to design lessons, set tasks, organize resources, etc., which continue to be effective and interesting for our children.

We have never felt abandoned, not even at the start, when the chats were filled with password issues or connection problems. Having the opportunity to interact directly every day with their teachers and classmates has become a routine that our kids have slowly, slowly built upon and are now much more autonomous and motivated in participating in the lessons. It is obvious that they miss the physical contact and making noise, as only our children know how, but these things will still be there, I hope as soon as possible, and I think they will be beautiful moments, moments for which we can and must fight for while we wait for our wonderful daily life to return.

We parents accept the challenge together with Caterina, all the teachers and the Smiling Staff to lead this battle because we believe in the global educational project that we have chosen and thanks to which we can appreciate the high level of education of our children. 

Everything will be alright….. together!!!!

Le nostre Butterflies unite contagiano di arcobaleni tutto il mondo

Distanti combattiamo tutti la stessa battaglia

 

Di questi giorni strani e incerti, cerchiamo modi per far crescere la speranza e sentirci più vicini.Le nostre Bubbly Butterflies (5 anni) insieme alle vivaci Lively Butterflies (5 anni) hanno scovato e rappresentato il loro arcobaleno in questa nuvolosa tempesta, unendosi con altre scuole a livello internazionale, per creare grandi archi colorato colmi di ispirazione e speranza.
 
Le nostre energiche Bubbly Butterflies hanno fatto squadra con la classe Wyvern,della Scuola Elementare Robert Sandilands di Newbury, in Inghilterra. Durante le lezioni, infatti, gli studenti della Scuola Inglese hanno condiviso i loro arcobaleni con le nostre Butterflies, e i disegni degli studenti di Smiling sono stati anche pubblicati nella newsletter della Robert Sandilands School. 
Parola d’ordine: diffondere la speranza oltre i confini!

Allo stesso modo la HVS International School di Den Haag, in Olanda, ha unito le sue forze con i nostri Lively Butterflies. Siamo rimasti stupiti ed entusiasti dai coloratissimi disegni ricevuti da parte nostri amici Olandesi. 

Le nostre sezioni di Early Years partecipano a un progetto Skype con queste scuole ormai da vari anni e ci riempie di orgoglio e gioia sapere che possiamo mantenere i contatti, nonostante tutti i problemi che ci troviamo ora ad affrontare a livello globale.

Want to know the story behind the colourful arcs of hope? Read on…

Through these strange and uncertain times, we look for ways to bring hope to each other and to feel closer. The Lively Butterflies and Bubbly Butterflies have found their rainbow through the storm by uniting with other schools internationally, to create colourful arcs of inspiration.

The Bubbly Butterflies teamed up with the Wyvern Class, Robert Sandilands Primary School in Newbury, England. The classes exchanged their rainbow designs and those by our Bubbly Butterflies even featured in the English school’s newsletter, spreading hope across the borders.

Meanwhile, HVS International School in Den Haag, Holland, joined forces with our Lively Butterflies and we loved receiving rainbows from our Dutch friends.

The Butterflies have been participating in a Skype project with these schools for years now and it warms the heart to know we can keep up the contact, despite all the troubles we now face globally.

The whole of Early Years united their rainbows to make these collages below and a video to send to other schools around the world.

“Mi chiamo Andrea Pansini, ho 26 anni e sono un Designer Industriale.

Ho organizzato questa raccolta di messaggi con l’intenzione di mostrare in modo più tangibile e diretto possibile il supporto di tutta la popolazione, specialmente di quella fascia che si pensa sia la più “distante” e “disinteressata” come i giovani e i bambini,  a tutti i lavoratori in campo sanitario che in questo momento stanno vivendo una situazione di fortissimo stress.

Ne ho personalmente un esempio a casa tutti i giorni, mio padre Giancarlo Pansini, chirurgo oncologo e Professore universitario, il quale ha dovuto, come pressoché la totalità dei medici e personale sanitario, rispondere alla chiamata per risolvere le problematiche legate al virus, ma non solo, per salvare vite. In contesti così stressanti e dove il grado di responsabilità non può essere chiaro ai molti finché non ci lavori dentro, la motivazione, l’umore, la determinazione sono tutti fattori che possono comprensibilmente venire meno.

Mi sono quindi attivato per stimolare le persone e spingerle a esternare la loro gratitudine attraverso un pensiero, una dedica, un disegno o qualsiasi tipologia di contenuto personale che potesse far tornare voglia di lottare e resistere a chi ci sta veramente salvando, rischiando la propria vita.”

Un ringraziamento doveroso va sia alla scuola Smiling di Ferrara che, tramite la maestra Elena Berveglieri mi ha aiutato a raccogliere tantissimo materiale a grande impatto emotivo proveniente dai bambini della scuola primaria, che all’amico Michele Bertoldi che si sta impegnando nella stessa iniziativa a Bologna.

 

Queste le parole del giovane Andrea che ha permesso alla nostra Scuola di prendere parte alla meravigliosa iniziativa benefica: EROI IN CORSIA.

Tutti i ragazzi della Scuola Primaria di Smiling hanno partecipato con entusiasmo all’iniziativa e, con il supporto delle loro Teachers hanno realizzato una raccolta di pensieri, messaggi, lettere di incoraggiamento e soprattutto di ringraziamento rivolte a tutti coloro che combattono in prima linea contro il Covid-19.

Come Smiling anche il Team dell’Ospedale di Cona #nonsiferma e diventa sempre più #digital: è stata creata dall’ospedale stesso una piattaforma online nella quale è possibile caricare il proprio pensiero o messaggio. Questa resterà aperta per chiunquevolesse aggiungere messaggi come hanno fatto i nostri allievi di seconda elementare.

“My name is Andrea Pansini, I’m 26 years old and I am an industrial designer.

I have organised this collection of messages with the idea of showing the support of the whole population, as visibly and as directly as possible, to all health workers who are currently going through a time of extreme stress. These sentiments come from a group of people who may be especially considered as the most distant and disinterested; children and young people.

 

I am personally affected every day. My father, Giancarlo Pansini, oncologist surgeon and university professor, like almost all doctors and key healthcare workers, had to respond to the call of duty to solve problems related to the virus, but not only that, to save lives too. In such stressful situations and where the degree of responsibility cannot be fully understood unless you’re on the front line of fighting this, motivation, determination and a sense of humour can all understandably fall by the wayside.

So, I dedicated myself to inspiring people to express their gratitude through a thought, a dedication, a design or anything that comes from the heart, which could provide support and strength to those who are really saving us and risking their own lives in doing so.”

A heartfelt thank you to Smiling International School in Ferrara, who with the kind help of teacher Elena Berveglieri, has collected a great deal of emotional messages from the primary school children, and also to our friend Michele Bertoldi, who is engaged in the same initiative in Bologna.

 

Those are the moving words of young Andrea, who has allowed our school to take part in the wonderful charity: EROI IN CORSIA.

All pupils of Smiling Primary School have joined in with enthusiasm and, with the support of their teachers, have produced a collection of thoughts, messages, letters of encouragement to express their thanks to those who fight on the front line against COVID-19.

Available below in downloadable format is the poem entitled ‘INNO ALLA SPERANZA’ (HYMN TO HOPE) created by our third, fourth and fifth graders.

Just like Smiling, the team at Cona Hopsital #wontstop and it has moved to a digital space: the hospital created an online platform, where you can share your thoughts or messages. WHAT SMILING MEANS TO ME

#WhatSmilingMeansToMe è la prima competizione digitale ufficiale organizzata da Smiling.

Il primissimo #digitalcontest rivolto a tutti gli studenti, nessuna restrizione a ordine/grado. Lo scopo principale della competizione è di portare un po’ di leggerezza nelle vostre case, di scacciare quell’incertezza che caratterizza questi giorni particolari, e sostituirla con una ventata di gioia e tranquillità, magari accompagnando il tutto con una bella playlist happy vibes in sottofondo.

 

Ma di cosa si tratta nello specifico?

Il contest consiste nel modificare a proprio piacimento il logo ufficiale della Scuola.

Vorremmo vedere, tradotto in colori, glitter, pasta, cartoncino o materiale riciclato che cosa Smiling rappresenta per voi.  Lasciate volare la vostra immaginazione!

 

REGOLE

La prima regola é che non ci sono regole. Dopotutto è impossibile limitare la creatività.

Usate nuovi colori, linee, collage, disegni, arricchite di dettagli, di personaggi insomma tutto quello che vi viene in mente appena pensate a Smiling.

Qualsiasi colore. Qualsiasi materiale. Qualsiasi idea. Decidi tu, è il tuo disegno!

#WhatSmilingMeansToMe is the first ever digital competition organised by Smiling International School.

 

Our very first digital contest is open to all students of Smiling, no matter your age or what grade you’re in. The main idea behind this is to shine some light into your homes and drive away the shadow of uncertainty that’s lurking around the corners of this strange time. Perhaps you can listen to our happy vibes playlist while you get involved, to bring a feeling of calm and joy too!

 

So what is this competition, then? We are asking you to get creative and transform the school’s logo in any way you want! We’d love to see what Smiling means to you, in all its glorious technicolour… and glitter, or pasta shapes, or recycled pieces of cardboard and plastic. Let your imagination fly!

 

RULES

 

The first rule is… There are no rules! Everything is topsy-turvy in this time, so let’s dismiss school rules for a while. Plus, how could we put a limit on your creativity? Experiment with colours, collages, drawings and paintings and fill it with details, characters or anything that comes to mind when you think of Smiling. Is it the teachers, your friends, the pets, the building, the garden or even a feeling of home that makes Smiling what it is, to you? Use any colour, material and ideas. It’s your design, so you can choose!

SNEAK PEEK AT OUR NEW GARDEN

Mentre siete casa e lavorate sodo nelle nostre aule virtuali, stiamo facendo tutto il possibile per rendere la nostra scuola un bellissimo paradiso in cui tornare. 

Siamo super entusiasti di mostrarvi il Giardino Segreto del Campus di Porta Mare.

Abbiamo scelto solo colori vivaci che fin da subito ci hanno trasmesso felicità, tranquillità e tanta energia positiva. Tutto ciò di cui abbiamo bisogno ora sono i nostri piccoli Happy Hedgehogs, le nostre indaffarate Busy Bees, i nostri sempre allegri Cool Caterpillars e le nostre preziose Butterflies. Seriamo di vedere presto i vostri sorrisi felici satellare di qua e di là per il giardino, magari a bordo di uno dei tanto richiesti tricicli.
